CARRIE’S WAR
Production by: Swansea Little Theatre
Carrie’s War is a 1973 English children’s novel by Nina Bawden set during the Second World War. It follows two young London evacuees, Carrie and her younger brother Nick, into a Welsh village. Inspired by Nina Bawden’s own experiences of living as an evacuee in a Welsh mining valley as a child, Carrie’s War is now considered a modern classic as it is a story about a young girl’s personal struggles, adjusting to a strange new life as an evacuee in the home of Welsh family.
Carrie and Nick’s mother sends for them to return to live with her. Shortly before they leave Carrie does something which she lives to regret. The story starts and ends with Carrie revisiting Wales many years later with her own children and recalling her memories of the place.
